Why we built this
Wingdings Translator Pro (WingdingsTranslatorPro.com) is a focused website for one job: turning text into Wingdings style symbols and turning those symbols back into text. Most Wingdings tools online are cluttered, support only one font, or quietly use mappings that do not match what other tools produce. We wanted one place that handles all four Microsoft dingbat fonts, reads messages made with other translators, and explains clearly what is going on.
The “Pro” in the name is about the toolset, not the price. Every feature on the site, from the four translators to the symbol keyboard, Alt code tables and PNG export, is free to use without an account.
How the translator is made
Every conversion is a one to one lookup from a keyboard character to a Unicode code point. Our tables for Wingdings, Wingdings 2, Wingdings 3 and Webdings follow the published Unicode equivalents for these fonts, as compiled in the open source dingbat-to-unicode project. We made one deliberate change: for eight lower case Wingdings letters we output the widely supported shapes that fan communities and other translators use, because the standard characters do not display on many phones. The decoder accepts both forms.
Symbol names and code points on the character chart come straight from the Unicode Character Database. To make sure every symbol displays, the site serves a small subset of the open source Noto Sans Symbols fonts from Google, licensed under the SIL Open Font License.
Privacy by design
The translator runs entirely in your browser. What you type is never sent to our server, stored, or logged. Share links keep the message in the part of the address after the # sign, which browsers do not send to web servers. Read more in our privacy policy.
Accuracy and corrections
History and background on this site are checked against reference sources, including the Unicode Standard and published histories of the Wingdings and Webdings fonts. If you spot a symbol that decodes wrongly or a fact that needs fixing, please tell us through the contact page. We read every message.
