How to decode Wingdings to English

1. Copy the symbols from the message, post, game or document where you found them.
2. Paste them into the box above. The decoder reads each symbol and shows the letters right away.
3. Check the font. The tool guesses whether the symbols came from Wingdings, Wingdings 2, Wingdings 3 or Webdings. If the result looks like nonsense, try another font button.
4. Read or copy the result. Use Copy result to paste the plain text anywhere.

When a Wingdings message will not decode

You pasted letters, not symbols

If someone wrote a message in Word and changed the font to Wingdings, the file still holds ordinary letters. When you copy it, you get those letters, for example “hello” instead of symbols. In that case you do not need a decoder at all: the copied text already is the message.

A picture of symbols cannot be pasted as text. Use the symbol keyboard above and click the symbols in order, or look each one up on the Wingdings chart. Most messages are short, so this takes a minute or two.

Some symbols come back unchanged

Symbols that are not part of the selected font stay as they are. That usually means the message mixes fonts, uses emoji, or came from a tool with a different mapping. Switch fonts and compare. Our decoder already accepts both the Unicode standard shapes and the common variants used by other Wingdings translators.

Capital letters look wrong

Wingdings gives capital and small letters different symbols. Undertale’s W. D. Gaster writes in capitals, so his messages decode to upper case text. That is correct, not an error.
